Called to Serve - Osorno, Chile

Elder Keenan Robertson is serving in the Osorno Chile Mission as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Elder Robertson left on July 16, 2013 and will return sometime around July of 2015. Missionaries have a limited time to respond to all the E-mails and letters they receive so we will include here some of his letters home so that friends and family can keep up to date on how things are going for him and his ministry among the wonderful people of Chile.

March 30th, 2015

This week was good.  Nobody in the zone was doing very many contacts in the Zone so this week we did a competition to see who could do the most contacts!!!  We were winning the whole week and then the hermanas beat us....  It was all fun and games until we lost! haha :)  They did 98 contacts.  It was good though because this week everybody did lots of contacts.  We had 42 in church yesterday but the average attendance is going up a lot.  Things have been going good here.  The church came out with a new website for Easter!  It's called helives.mormon.org, you have to check it out.  They did a new video and its awesome.  We are using that a lot.  It's awesome how awesome the church is.  It's so technologically advanced.  It would be a lot nicer if we had iPads and stuff but whatever!  This week we have been doing lots of contacts so we can find people.  It went really good and we hope to use the video even more to find.

I'm excited for General Conference this weekend, it should be awesome.  Elder Warburton's mom said that President Monson looked really old.  That's too bad.  There is a couple missionary companionship that are going home this week.  That is going to be sad!  Hna and Elder Biggs.  They are from Wyoming.  They live in our zone so we are always working with them.

For about a week now I have had a bug bite on my leg and it has gotten really big!  But I got it checked out and it's not bad at all.  It just itches and burns like crazy!  It should get better fast.

Well that's all for now, I think.  Take care and love ya tons!

Love,
Elder Robertson

March 23rd, 2015

This week was good.  We did lots of traveling!  We went to Los Lagos to show the new hermanas everything and that all went really good.  Then Thursday we had to go back because the other hermanas are getting kicked out of their house!  So we had to go look at houses and stuff.  We ended up finding a really nice house, so this Friday I think we will help them move.  It was a really nice house!  I have been looking for a new house in all of my time here in Lanco and there just isn`t any!  This week we also went to a little city called Malahue.  It's about 30 minutes outside of Lanco.  There is a member that is sick so we went and cut her wood.  It has been an exciting week with all the traveling!

Romina is doing really good she really liked the baptism.  She is ten.  It was a neat experience.

I still haven't decided where I want to live for school.  I don't know if I could live at home, with Nana, or in an apartment.  Haha.  It would be really cool to live with Warburton but it would also be cheaper to live at home.  So I don't know.

We had 53 people in church this week!  It was awesome.  Me and Warburton gave talks and it was a good Sunday!  Today we are getting together with everybody to play handball!  Haha, that should be fun!

I can't believe it is almost cambios again!!!  I think i will stay here with Warburton for another cambio but we will see.

Thats awesome all the work you are doing in the yard!  That should be good.

I was also thinking, depending on where I live for school it would be good to work!  Maybe in a little bit when it gets closer to me coming home you could ask around the ward if anybody knows of any jobs that would be good.

I'm not too trunkie, don't worry! :)

Love you guys!!!!

Elder Robertson

There is a member here and she is a firefighter.  I tried on the clothes!

This was a cool sunrise the other day.

March 16th, 2015

So the baptism was really good.  Everything went great.  Lots of people came and then in church we had 52 people come!!!!  It was great.  Today has been crazy.  We got to the computers to write earlier and then we got a call from the APs and there is going to be a sobrecambio tomorrow.  There is a branch called Los Lagos and it has two elders and 2 hermanas.  They are going to change the elders for two more hermanas.  So we had to leave the ciber to plan all that out, haha.  We have to travel to Los Lagos tomorrow in the morning to make sure everything goes good and to show the new hermanas everything.  That should be good.

My companion is going to go to UVU as well so that should be awesome.  I think he said the applications are the 30 of March or something.  If you guys could do it that would be great.

This week was really good.  We had a great week.  We started sharing with this lady named Angelica.  She came to church this week so that was good.  It's sad because she has had a lot of problems.  We have been finding lots of people so that has been good!  We made brownies this week with some members; that was really good.

Love you guys tons!!!!!!!!!!!!

So not much happened with the Volcano.  It was in the other Zone but it was still crazy for a little bit.  I never heard it or saw it.  The missionaries in pucon were evacuated.  The only elders in our zone that were taken out were in Panguipulli.  It wasn't too bad so everything went back to normal pretty quick.  I was bummed I didn't get to see it.

This week was good.  We did intercambios with the the AP`s and then with a sector called San Jose.  It was a good week.  Romina gets baptized this week so I'm excited.  Her brother in law is going to baptize her.  It has been really fun teaching her.  We are working super hard so it's been awesome!  Me and elder Warburton are getting along great.

Sorry my emails are so short, haha, I don't know what to tell you.  I love my mission so much right now.  I feel like my whole mission I have been working my hardest but sometimes it hasn't been as effective as it could have been.  But I feel that while I am still learning tons, I am a lot more effective now than before.  I get home everyday so tired I can barely keep my eyes open.  I've realized that someday when I die and go before God he won't ask me how many baptisms I had, he will ask me if I gave it my all!  So that's what I'm trying to do!  I love the mission.

Love you Guys!!!
Elder Robertson

We were walking the other day and we passed by some members that had a sheep so we watched them kill it and clean it.  It was pretty cool; I was going to take a video of it all but it was pretty barbaric so I thought mom and Ellie wouldn't have liked it.  I didn't take a video but I took lots of pictures!  I got to help.  They said I can kill the next one! haha

Last p-day we were playing Handball and it started to rain.  It was awesome so we decided to keep playing and it became a downpour so we got soaked but it was fun!

We went to Valdivia today and it turns out they opened a new KFC in the Mall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) It was really good!

UPDATE - Volcano

Overnight on March 2nd there was a large volcanic eruption on the Villarrica volcano.  This volcano is in Elder Robertson's zone.  It is about 40 miles from his area.  We received an email from the mission office stating that all of the missionaries were accounted for and that four of them needed to be moved from Pucon, which was partially evacuated.  The volcano could erupt again but is quiet for now.  We are looking forward to hearing from Elder Robertson and what he was able to see.

This photograph was taken from the city of Temuco which is just a little bit farther from the volcano than Elder Robertson's area.

March 2nd, 2015

Sorry for the short emails!  Ha-ha, I'll try to be better.  This week was really good.  Cambios were all right; luckily in the Zone we didn't have too many cambios so everything went good.  I'm pretty excited about the Zone; we have a lot of good elderes.  The Hermanas (sisters) in our Zone are also working really hard.  Hopefully just about everybody will baptize during this cambio.  Friday we had our leadership meeting in Osorno.  We had to leave Thursday night at like 7:00pm and we spent the night in Valdivia.  Then from Valdivia we left the house at 5:00 am and we finally made it back to Lanco at 10:30 at night!  It was a crazy day.  I'm happy now because there won't be anymore really long trips for awhile.

Today we have interviews with presidente so that should be really good.  Romina is progressing really good so she should get baptized the 14th!  I'm excited for that.  We are working with lots of menos-activos and trying to find people to teach, but it has been good.  We do lots of contacts and we are always looking for people to teach.

Elder Hilton's parents came and got him so I got to see them.

Hitchhiking isn't bad here, everybody does it.  There are people that go from all the way up north to the bottom of Punta Arenas Hitchhiking, ha-ha.  We got some good contacts.  We don't do it very much.

No worries that I didn't get in to BYU.  UVU should be great; I know lots of people that are going there.  That's awesome about basketball.  The University Utah seems to be doing good this year.  Well I think that is all for now.  We are going to play sports for awhile and then we are going to have the interviews with president.

Love you tons!
