Called to Serve - Osorno, Chile

Elder Keenan Robertson is serving in the Osorno Chile Mission as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Elder Robertson left on July 16, 2013 and will return sometime around July of 2015. Missionaries have a limited time to respond to all the E-mails and letters they receive so we will include here some of his letters home so that friends and family can keep up to date on how things are going for him and his ministry among the wonderful people of Chile.

Hey Family,
This week has been good. Cambios are this week so everything is kinda crazy. Elder Hilton goes home and my new companion is Elder Warburton. He is from my group in the MTC and he is in Panguipulli. That should be awesome, we are good friends! Sorry this email isn't long there is just a lot to do! I took some pictures this week though! :)

Love Elder Robertson
This Is Raul Hilker. He is a member since forever but now is really sick and lives in a retirement home.  We always go over to share with him.

This is Miguel Elena Patricio and Estefani.  They are a family we are working with.

This is Family Huaquemilla.  They are the coolest family in Lanco I think!

The two people on the left are Omar and Carmen.  We are trying to help them come back to the church.  They are really cool.  We read the Book of Mormon with them a lot.

Me and Elder Hilton!

I can't remember if I sent this last week but we had to hitchhike a little bit!  It was good because we found some good references

February 16, 2015

The Zone Conference ended up being really good.  It was in Los Lagos in the end so it took lots of planning but everything worked out good.  The Conference was Thursday and the day before we did intercambios with the asistentes to president.  It was really good.  We had a really good week.  We taught a lot and we had 50 people in church.  That has been my goal since I have gotten here to Lanco.  We had two inactive members come back and so that was cool.  It was a really good Sunday!  We are sharing with this family that is really good!  It's a mom and her daughter.  The mom's name is Hna Pilar.  Hna Pilar is 100% active and loves the church.  She has a daughter that isn't baptised whose name is Romina.  If we can teach her everything her baptism will be in 2 weeks.

When I worked on the house this time I wore sunscreen so that is a lot better.  haha

This week was pretty uneventful but we worked hard so that's good.  The conference with president was really good.  I learned lots.  President Obeso is an awesome person.

Glad everything is going good at home.  I'm sure you'll get a calling in no time dad, no worries.  I think the calling that we always have and will have is strengthening those around us, in the family and the neighbors.  Home teaching is awesome I wish I would have done better with that.  Do you and Dallin have families?

I saw a quote the other day that I liked a lot "I never dreamed about success, I worked for it."  I think that's pretty cool.

Love you guys a ton.  Make sure you you do family scripture study and prayer!  Don't forget Family Night as well :)

Love,
Elder Robertson

This is the house, we did all the cement walls and then we started filling it.  The next step will be to cover the inside with cement.  It has been fun to help out.

This is the group who worked on it.  Back row starting from the left is Daniel the son of President Yañez.  Then President Yañez (It's going to be his house).  Elder Llancoñanco, he is from Chile, Elder Hillen he is from Alaska.  He has been here in Chile for about a month I think, he is new.  Nobody else in his family is a member.  He got baptised a little over 3 years ago I think.  Bottom row from the left is Elder Warburton.  We are from the same group.  We have become pretty good friends.  Elder Garay is from Paraguay he is crazy but he is cool we get along really well.  And finally Elder Robertson by far the best looking one! :)

February 9th, 2015

This week was pretty normal so that was good!  Saturday we went to San Jose.  The branch president there is going to build his house so we are going to help him!  We laid the wall of the foundation and it was tons of work! We left here at 8 in the morning and got back at 7 at night just in time for a family night.  It was lots of work but it was good just to turn the brain off and go to work!  I got fried.  I wore long socks and shorts so half of my calfs are bright red!  My neck got burned pretty bad too.  But it's not the worst sunburn I've had.  This week has been super hot!

It's sad but we don't have a car.  It's all buses.  Elder Hilton goes home the 25th of February.  But his family is going to come pick him up.  He is going to go around the mission for like 2 weeks or something.  It's been an interesting cambio but I've learned a lot.

I had a question.  Have you heard anything about school?  BYU or UVU?  I'm not too trunkie but just a little bit! :) haha

We have found quite a few less actives recently so that has been good.  This time of year has been kinda hard because everyone goes on Vacation!  Nobody is home.  But I've been feeling the spirit pretty strong recently so that has been good.  There hasn't been lots of success but I'm working my hardest.

This week is Zone Conference with president.  Our zone and the zone of Villarica will get together for the conference.  It was planned for Wednesday in Villarica.  So everything was good and it was almost all planned and everything but we just got a call from the AP´s telling us it's going to be Thursday here in our Zone!  Haha.  But nothing is set in stone yet so hopefully it will just be in Villarica.  I love conferences, they are awesome.  Pres. Obeso is awesome.

I totally forgot to send Dallin an email last week.  I don't know what I was thinking!  Tell him Happy Late birthday and Sorry that I didn't write him anything.

Hope you guys have a great week!!! Work hard and go about doing lots of good!

Love,
Elder Robertson

February 2nd, 2015

Hey Fam!

So this week has been really good.  We have been finding new people to teach and the people we have, have been progressing.  We are going to have some people with a baptism fecha (date) by the end of this week.  We have been focusing a lot on fixing MLS (the church's membership record system).  The registros (records) are really bad so we have been working hard to fix everything we can.  I have become quite the expert with MLS. :) ok maybe not an expert...but I do ok.  We have been finding lots of inactive members that want to come back to church.  We found one registro and we were asking the old branch president because he knows everyone.  And he was really surprised with one.  We asked him where the guy lived now and he said the prison!  haha  He has been in prison for like 10 years for killing 2 people.  They excommunicated him but never did the paperwork! Haha

So, funny story.  Saturday night at about 9 we got a call from the sisters in the zone.  They told us they were just getting to Valdivia to go to the hospital!  It wasn't anything too serious but they had to get some medicine.  So we decided to have them just go do everything then so that they wouldn't have to wait until Sunday and miss church.  And then we called the sister leaders in Valdivia because the sisters from our zone were going to spend the night in Valdivia.  Just knowing my luck, both pairs of sisters ran out of minutes on their phones!  Haha, we were up until 12:00 at night making sure everything was ok.  It was super funny.  I just couldn't believe how unorganized it was haha.  They just happened to call us at 9:00 at night "oh hey, by the way we are going to the hospital" It was pretty crazy but everything worked out fine.

I ended up fixing the visa thing last week.  We went to Valdivia for like 5 hours just running around but everything is good now! :)

Football is disappointing, I hate the Patriots!  The picture you sent of Dallin and Ellie looks kinda like Dallin is peeing and Ellie is sneaking up on him and giving the thumbs up to push him or something. Haha, I got a good laugh out of that!

Well thats all for now!  Oh yea, I started my flight information!  Haha, I think I should be home July 3 but I will keep you guys updated.

Love,
Elder Robertson

This is Tito, he is a really good guy.  I think he will be baptized.
